Fremont
is a town of approximately 25,000, located in eastern Nebraska. It is the county seat and largest city in Dodge County. During the 1830s to the 1860s, Fremont was situated along the Mormon Trail, which was a major overland route for settlers and the military. Today, it's a beautiful town with a 20-block historic district filled with antique shops, specialty stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Several buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, such as the May Museum, a twenty-five room mansion built in 1874 and the Love-Larson Opera House built in 1888. For outdoor recreation, Fremont has 21 city-owned parks containing over 400 acres. The Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area, also known as "The State Lakes," is a group of 20 man-made lakes that offer boating, fishing, water-skiing and more. There are also several challenging golf courses located within minutes of town and Fremont is home to one of the largest indoor ice rinks in the country. Other attractions in Fremont include the Nebraska Railroad Museum and the Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad Dinner Train. Fremont is also host to the John C. Fremont Days, a weekend long celebration featuring a parade, a Chautauqua, rodeo and hand-made arts and crafts.

Fremont Weather & Climate

Eastern Nebraska an unpredictable four-season climate. Since it lies near the middle of the continent, it experiences the extremes of temperature characteristic of a continental climate. Usually, this type of climate is described as hot summers and cold winters. However, in central Nebraska, it is common to experience spells that are warmer or colder, wetter or drier than expected. Winters can be extremely frigid when cold air masses move through the area and lower temperatures rapidly. It's not unusual to see a decline of fifty degrees in a twelve-hour period in late winter when warming of the land is interrupted by airflow from the frigid land to the north. A severe blizzard in central Nebraska will occur about once every thirty years.
