Lincoln
is the capital and second most populous city in the state of Nebraska. The 2007 estimated population was 248,744 residents. It is located in Lancaster County in the southeastern portion of the state. Lincoln is often called "one of the Midwest's most beloved cities." It presents a unique blend of peaceful Midwest countryside along with big city amenities. Lincoln is home to a lively arts and music scene, many galleries and museums, outdoor recreation, fine restaurants and myriad shopping venues. More than one million visitors come here each year. For outdoor fun, the city has over 100 parks, including Antelope Park, which contains the Lincoln Children's Zoo and Sunken Garden. In addition, Lincoln's parks are connected by a 99-mile system of recreational trails. The city of Lincoln is well known across the nation for its fine museums. Just a few include the Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Museum, the Museum of American Speed, the National Museum of Roller Skating, Museum of Nebraska History, the Red Wing Pottery Museum and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Museum. The Historic Hay Market in Lincoln is the name for the original market square where wagons, camping equipment and hay were bought and sold. Today, it is the site of unique shops, great restaurants and nightspots, art galleries and antique shops and the first microbrewery ever in Nebraska.

Nebraska's southeast corner has a continental four-season climate with highly variable temperatures from season to season and year to year. However, temperatures do not usually vary widely from place to place in Nebraska. The southeast region tends to be slightly warmer in both the summer and winter than other areas of the state. Thunderstorms, hail, droughts, blizzards, tornadoes and windstorms are all possible severe types of weather in Nebraska. Generally, January is the coldest month and July is the warmest month. The driest month in southeast Nebraska is usually February with an average 0.66 inches of precipitation, and 4.23 inches in May, making it the wettest month. Spring and fall are mild to moderate and often the most pleasant time of year.
